By Mayson Marshall, nutraMetrix Program Coordinator – How to Stay Healthy with Family Through the Holidays –
As the holiday season approaches there are so many wonderful things to look forward to; time off from work, spending time with our loved ones, watching our favorite holiday movies, participating in our favorite holiday traditions and of course all the good food. The holiday season is often very busy, and it is easy to fall off track of our everyday habits.
When the holiday season comes around it is common for people to overlook their daily lifestyle habits that help keep them healthy. The season gets hectic with holiday gatherings and events, and people often do not make time for regular exercise or follow the same sleep schedule. Most gatherings are filled with delicious hearty but high caloric food, where a healthier diet is typically forgotten. You shouldn’t refrain yourself from indulging in all the tasty food but, remember to incorporate the vegetable options as well as choosing homemade food over processed foods. (1)
What are ways you can commit to your health through the holidays? (1)
- Eat in moderation
- Remember portion control
- Take a walk after dinner
- Don’t forget exercise
- Incorporate healthy dishes
- Try to stick to a sleep schedule
In addition to our good habits throughout the holidays, it is important to remember your immune health as well. The holiday season brings more interaction with many friends and family, as well as with more people who are out and about between grocery stores, shopping, restaurants, and venues (holiday parties and events). More connections make us more vulnerable to the spread of germs. What are things you and your family can do to help stay healthy this holiday season? (3)
- Wash your hands often and especially before eating
- Dress appropriately for the weather
- Stay hydrated
- Keep surfaces in your home clean
- Eat healthy foods
- Get enough rest
- Stay active through the season
- Manage the holiday stress
- Take vitamins and supplements
The most effective way to prevent spreading germs is by washing your hands and cleaning commonly used surfaces and items throughout your household. With the holiday season being such an exciting and busy time of year, it can also bring a lot of stress. (2) Managing stress supports a healthier you mentally and physically. A good way to manage stress is to incorporate time to be active during the day; physical activity can make a big difference to your mood and overall health. Another easy way to be healthy is to stay hydrated and get enough rest; these two give your body the daily support it needs to perform adequately. Lastly, adding supplementation can also promote a healthy holiday season for you and your family. nutraMetrix Isotonix® Immune supports the body’s natural immune response and promotes healthy energy levels and mental clarity.
